Matthew R. Shupp, Ed.D., LPC

Matthew is an Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling and College Student Personnel at Shippensburg University. He is a National Certified Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, board-certified as a tele-mental health provider, and Approved Clinical Supervisor. He has a Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in Counseling from Shippensburg University and a Post-Master’s Certificate in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Messiah College. He has experience working in adolescent and adult psychiatric facilities, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and college counseling settings.

From a therapeutic standpoint, Matthew views counseling as a collaborative and empowering process best accomplished when the client feels safe to explore and challenge current cognitive and behavioral patterns. This is accomplished through a variety of therapeutic techniques grounded in Cognitive Behavioral, Reality, and Rogerian dispositions. In the future, Matthew hopes to obtain education and skills in the area of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
